The benefits of massage are varied and far-reaching and have proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression, and more. Massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday life that can lead to disease and illness.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the most commonly taught and well-known of massage techniques. It is designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation using five basic massage strokes, all flowing toward the heart. The therapist uses a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin. Benefits of Swedish Massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. This form massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles, not with the grain. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone is a style of massage dating back to ancient times in which water-treated stones are placed at specific sites on the body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways). Muscles are pretreated with the heated stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations. Massage oils are usually incorporated into the massage treatment.
